A Few Tidbits of Browns News

So yesterday, I contemplated posting an April Fools Day prank, writing that Shaun Rogers was traded. The good news is that he was not traded, the bad news is that he was arrested. Not so funny anymore huh? Anyway, Rogers was arrested at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (which is kinda funny) for bringing a loaded gun through security. Rogers said that he forgot the gun was in the bag and is cooperating fully with the investigation. While extremely stupid, I don't think this will turn out being a big deal. I mean if Delonte West can ride around armed head to toe Rogers should be alright. I do expect that he'll be suspended for at least one game however.

On to happier thoughts. trade rumors have been swirling lately about a few players of interest. It has been reported by several outlets, although first by http://www.theobr.com/, that the Browns are interested in Rob Simms. Seattle has put a 4th round tender on Simms, who recently signed said tender, however it is believed that the Browns are not willing to give up such a high pick. Also in the Simms hunt are the Lions and Bears. OH MY!

Trade rumors are also circulating that the Browns may be dealing a combination of players and draft picks to the Eagles for LB Chris Gocong and CB Sheldon Brown per Clark Judge of Cbssports.com. At 6'2 and 263 lbs, Gocong, a strongside LB with the Eagles, is better suited to be a rush OLB in a scheme such as Cleveland's where he can get after the passer. At age 26, he has alot of potential, and I think he'd be a good fit in Rob Ryan's aggressive defense. Brown is an even bigger part of the deal. Brown demanded a new contract prior to last season, but his demands went unanswered. Look for the Browns to negotiate a new deal with the 31 year old Cornerback. In a solid 2009 season, Brown had 51 tackles, 17 passes defended, 5 Ints including one returned for a TD, and a forced fumble. I think the combination of Brown and Wright is an above average CB tandem. He certainly is an upgrade over Brandon McDonald, who could spend more time in the slot, replacing the Hank Poteat, who as you know sucks.

Keep an ear out for more news on this trade. In 3 weeks we will know who our first round selection will be. If Brown comes via trade, it does not rule out taking a CB, but if Berry is our guy, our secondary just got a whole hell of a lot better.

SUPERBOWL!!!!
