Stream of Conciousness, 7-Minute Breakdown of the 2010 Regular Season Schedule

Based on the title of this post, you immediately might be wondering, "What if someone comes out with a 6-Minute Breakdown of the 2010 Regular Season Schedule?" My response: "...NNNOO! 7 not, 6. You can't even break a sweat. Not even a mouse on a wheel."

Anyways, I finally got to glance at the schedule, missing the highly anticipated schedule release shows on ESPN and NFL Network. Here is a chat transcript reflecting my initial reactions and thoughts regarding the 2010 season and how it will play out. We will revisit this topic again after the draft and throughout the offseason as we learn more about the makeup and chemistry of our team, our division rivals and other opponents and will adjust our predictions as necessary (they will undoubtedly be unrealistic regardless). Without further adieu, here it is, my crystal ball look into the 2010 regular season for the Cleveland Browns:

8:06 PM me: so i'm looking at the schedule...

i really cannot see one game we lose

we def start 2-0

Eric: yea

for sure

8:07 PM me: I’ll give us a loss week 3 at balt

8:08 PM Eric: yea

me: i think we beat cinci

Eric: cinci will be a good game i think

me: 3-1

yeah

I’ll give us the win at home

I’ll say 3-2

8:09 PM @pitt

i say we win

big win propelling us to 4-2

8:10 PM Eric: yea

me: lose at nola

4-3

Patriots beat us

4-4

Eric Mangini sticks is to his former employer

5-4

wooohooo!

jets very overrated going into 2010

8:11 PM jacksonville is a win 6-4

Carolina will be tough but we win

7-4

contender? pretender?

lose at miami

8:12 PM 7-5

win at buff

8-5

@cinci, i say we pull off the win, cinci will not be as good as last year

9-5

8:13 PM Another big divisional game, Ravens beat us out, 9-6

need a win to get in the playoffs, and we beat ben and the steelers

10-6

wildcard!

Ravens will go 10-6 but own tiebreaker

steelers finish the year 6-10

bengals go 7-9

we are amazing

The World of Cleveland Sports: Eric's Take

What an exciting time to be a Cleveland fan!

CAVS

The Cavs smacked the over eager to the point of being annoying Bulls right in the mouth. If only the Bulls had any realistic expectation, it would be good to give them some payback for the Jordan era. The expectations in Chicago are not very high for the Bulls, despite getting outstanding play from PG Derrick Rose over the last few weeks. I noticed this morning walking downtown in Chicago that they have hung Blackhawks banners from the light posts. No bulls stuff anywhere. That made me happy.

I think Joakim Noah needs to keep her mouth shut after getting abused by Shaq and Andy the day before. Noah said on Sunday that Cleveland is boring and sucks. I encourage any one going to the game tonight to try to lose their voice heckling her. Now normally, I do not advocate violence against women, but in Noah deserves to be knocked down a peg, both physically and mentally. Talking shit after losing a lopsided game makes you look bitter, not like a hard ass. Maybe she was pmsing, I don't know how that all works, but its no excuse for her behavior. (I like this picture of Ms. Noah, this is the face I imagine her making after having too many drinks with Ben Roethlisberger)

INDIANS

Any time the Indians beat the Whitesox, I am happy. Any time the Indians sweep the Whitesox I am even happier. Any time the Indians sweep the Whitesox while Noah and her friends are in the process of getting swept I am exceptionally happy. Oddly enough, not a single Chicago fan has said anything to me today... Its been a good day. Saturday was another good day... I watched a friend of mine talk Jake Peavy out of a bar... Well done sir.

BROWNS

While the aforementioned sporting teams are doing a hell of a job killing time, the Browns are also poised to have a huge week. Even Chris Jennings punching a bouncer at Velvet Dog in the mouth can't ruin the week the Browns are about to have. First is the release of the schedule on Tuesday night on the NFL channel. Some of you will say, who cares the schedule is irrelevant when going undefeated and while I agree, its still pretty damn exciting. Thursday of course it the 75th NFL Draft and what should be considered a national holiday. There is still no way of knowing what the Browns might do with their picks in this draft. I am hoping to god that the Browns come away with a starting safety. If Berry is on the board at 7, thats got to be the pick. If not, maybe we can trade down and take Earl Thomas. I love the idea of moving up to get Colt McCoy if we don't think he'll be there at 38. We need a QB of the future and I think in a west coast offense, McCoy can be an absolute monster. In addition to a safey and McCoy, I'd like to see the Browns come away with a speed receiver with a 3rd round pick. I love Jacoby Ford from Clemson (4.28 speed at 5'9" and 186 lbs) and would be ok with Taylor Price, another burner, coming from Ohio University. We need to add a LB at some point as well, possibly Brandon Spikes in the 3rd round. We pimped Spikes as a low first-high second type of guy, but his SLLLLLOOOWWWW 40 time has dropped him. The man is still a beast and can still play. He'd be a perfect fit as a thumper at the Mack ILB spot.

2010 NFL Mock Draft - Version 4 (Rounds 1 and 2)

FIRST ROUND

Drafter

Pick

Team

Selection

Charlie

1

Rams

Sam Bradford - QB (Oklahoma)

Comments:

Charlie:

Rams have gone D-line over potential franchise QB for a few years now and can't afford to do it again.

Eric:

This has been a lock for some time. Rams can't pass up another franchise QB.

Eric

2

Lions

Ndamukong Suh - DT (Nebraska)

Comments:

Charlie:

Jim Schwartz will be happy to land either Suh or McCoy.

Eric:

Lions are happy to finish the D-line makeover with a rare talent.

Charlie

3

Buccaneers

Gerald McCoy - DT (Oklahoma)

Comments:

Charlie:

McCoy will be the key to the much needed Bucs defensive makeover.

Eric:

McCoy is the perfect style for the Bucs defense. Can he be the next Warren Sapp?

Eric

4

Redskins

Russell Okung - OT (Oklahoma State)

Comments:

Charlie:

With McNabb in place as Shanahan's QB (IMO, for at least the next few years), protecting him becomes a priority.

Eric:

LT is the priority here, especially after the McNabb trade. Okung is the safest LT in the draft.

Charlie

5

Chiefs

Dan Williams - DT (Tennessee)

Comments:

Charlie:

Pioli continues to rebuild the Chiefs in the mold of the Patriots, following the pick of 3-4 DE last year with 3-4 nose this year.

Eric:

Williams is flying up the board and while he lacks the talent of Suh and McCoy, he should be a solid 3-4 NT.

Eric

6

Seahawks

Trent Williams - OT (Oklahoma)

Comments:

Charlie:

With Walter Jones' career likely coming to an end, Okung should help get Hasselbeck and the Seahawks offense back to form.

Eric:

Williams may have more upside than Okung, and the Seahawks need to fill the void at LT.

Charlie

7

Browns

Jimmy Clausen - QB (Notre Dame)

Comments:

Charlie:

Though most people project a defensive player here, I have a feeling Holmgren & Co. like him a lot more than we know.

Eric:

Can't see the Browns taking Clausen if Berry is on the board.

Eric

8

Raiders

Eric Berry - S (Tennessee)

Comments:

Charlie:

Applaud the Raiders for taking the best player available here vastly improving their secondary. Also consider a D-Lineman.

Eric:

Raiders take a top 2 talent in this draft, getting speed and playmaking ability for their secondary.

Charlie

9

Bills

Anthony Davis - OT (Rutgers)

Comments:

Charlie:

Bills take Davis despite questions of his maturity, passing on Bulaga due to concerns he lacks physical tools to be a LT in the NFL.

Eric:

I think Davis slides a bit on draft day over maturity issues, and Bulaga would go ahead of him, but he's got top 10 talent.

Eric

10

Jaguars

Derrick Morgan - DE (Georgia Tech)

Comments:

Charlie:

Morgan is no longer a flashy pick but he's perhaps the most prepared and well rounded DE in the draft, ready to play from Day 1.

Eric:

Jags take the top DE in the draft, and keep Morgan's hand on the ground.

Charlie

11

Broncos

Rolando McClain - LB (Alabama)

Comments:

Charlie:

I know some may consider Bryant here but to me it would make zero sense. McClain fits perfectly with their defense.

Eric:

McClain is a beast and will be a 3-down linebacker. Denver also needs a WR with BM going to Miami and think about Dez.

Eric

12

Dolphins

Jason Pierre-Paul - OLB (South Florida)

Comments:

Charlie:

Dolphins no longer need to look at WR with this pick and go with the defensive player with the most upside in the draft.

Eric:

JPP is a physical freak, and with the arrival of BM, the Dolphins look to improve their pass rush in a division loaded on offense.

Charlie

13

49ers

Bryan Bulaga - OT (Iowa)

Comments:

Charlie:

Arguably a Top 10 talent who slips to them at 13. 49ers go with Bulaga here as a value pick. He will play RT, keeping Staley at LT.

Eric:

Tough, physical and smart are traits that Mike Singletary is looking for.

Eric

14

Seahawks

C.J. Spiller - RB (Clemson)

Comments:

Charlie:

Seahawks need to add more playmakers to a mediocre offense. I believe they also look at Dez Bryant here, lacking a #1 WR.

Eric:

Having filled the need at LT, the Seahawks take an explosive talent on offense and in the return game.

Charlie

15

Giants

Joe Haden - CB (Florida)

Comments:

Charlie:

Another value pick. Haden is a welcomed addition joining Rolle and Ross in what was a depleted secondary in 2009.

Eric:

Giants take the top CB in this years draft. Haden is a top 10 talent. I think the Giants go LB here though.

Eric

16

Titans

Jared Odrick - DT (Penn State)

Comments:

Charlie:

Odrick may be better suited to play 3-4 DE, but can play DT in a 4-3. He's a very good technician. Titans might go CB instead.

Eric:

Odrick's moving up and could go higher. He's a high motor guy and was extremely productive at PSU. Could play either DL spot.

Charlie

17

49ers

Earl Thomas - S (Texas)

Comments:

Charlie:

Not sure if Thomas will still be available but the 49ers are thrilled that he is. They need to add a playmaker in the secondary.

Eric:

Thomas is instinctive and makes plays all over the field. He'll start at FS and can cover well enough to cover the slot.

Eric

18

Steelers

Maurkice Pouncey - C (Florida)

Comments:

Charlie:

Not sure if Pouncey is a "rare" talent and think the Steelers reach here. We can only hope they did.

Eric:

Steelers grab a rare talent at center. He will stabilize the line for the next decade.

Charlie

19

Falcons

Brandon Graham - DE (Michigan)

Comments:

Charlie:

Graham made a living (Michigan must keep that money 'cause he still hasen't seen a nickel) in the backfield. Very productive.

Eric:

I love Brandon Graham. I'd like to see him play OLB in a 3-4 but he'll be productive as a 4-3 DE as he was at Michigan.

Eric

20

Texans

Kyle Wilson - CB (Boise State)

Comments:

Charlie:

Texans need to add a corner and get a good one in Kyle Wilson. He's rated very close to Joe Haden.

Eric:

With Dunta Robinson gone, the Texans need a CB if they are going to compete with the Colts.

Charlie

21

Bengals

Dez Bryant - WR (Oklahoma State)

Comments:

Charlie:

This just in to OCNN: Bengals pick up right where they left off in last year's draft, taking a highly rated player that fell to them.

Eric:

Bryant gives the Bengals a legit number 1. Chad Johnson will be happy to have some help on the other side.

Eric

22

Patriots

Mike Iupati - G (Idaho)

Comments:

Charlie:

Iupati es Mipati? Well, it will be in Gillette Stadium. Iupati projects as a dominant guard who can double as swing tackle.

Eric:

Pats need to sure up the interior of their line, as the starters in NE are getting a bit long in the tooth.

Charlie

23

Packers

Bruce Campbell - OT (Maryland)

Comments:

Charlie:

Although there are concerns over Campbell's technique, he is perhaps the most physically gifted OT in the draft.

Eric:

The Packers re-signed both OT which will give Campbell, a year to get ready for the NFL.

Eric

24

Eagles

Sean Weatherspoon - OLB (Missouri)

Comments:

Charlie:

Eagles are thrilled to add Spoon, who fills a huge void in their defense.

Eric:

I don't think Spoon makes it this far, but if so the Eagles will be quick to call his name… he is a big time playmaker.

Charlie

25

Ravens

Jermaine Gresham - TE (Oklahoma)

Comments:

Charlie:

Ozzie has focused the offseason on improving his receiving corps and continues to in the draft, giving Flacco another weapon.

Eric:

Ravens need to replace an aging and oft injured Todd Heap. Gresham will provide a reliable big target for Flacco.

Eric

26

Cardinals

Sergio Kindle - OLB (Texas)

Comments:

Charlie:

Kindle is flying up the draft boards and looks to be gone by the time the Cardinals pick on April 22. Also look at secondary here.

Eric:

Drawing comparisons to Brian Orakpo. The Cardinals immediately upgrade their pass rush with this pick.

Charlie

27

Cowboys

Charles Brown - OT (USC)

Comments:

Charlie:

Cowboys have to address their offensive line early and perhaps often in the first few rounds of this draft.

Eric:

Gone is Flozell Adams and in is Charles Brown.

Eric

28

Chargers

Ryan Mathews - RB (Fresno State)

Comments:

Charlie:

Seems like this is the landing spot for the talented back out of Fresno State. We'll see if this is how it really plays out in a week.

Eric:

Mathews is a versatile runner who can do it all. Will be a nice combo with Sproles.

Charlie

29

Jets

Carlos Dunlap - OLB (Florida)

Comments:

Charlie:

Jets modeled their locker room after the Ravens. They have strong leadership and will keep Dunlap focused. Great upside.

Eric:

With an attitude that says who cares?... Its only football, the Jets take one man with 4 syllables… Car - los - dun-lap.

Eric

30

Vikings

Devin McCourty - CB (Rutgers)

Comments:

Charlie:

Vikings consider Colt McCoy here but still haven't given up on Tavaris Jackson. CB is a more pressing need.

Eric:

Vikes think about taking a young QB, but ultimately with Brett being in his 60's its win now… and they need CB help.

Charlie

31

Colts

Brian Price - DT (UCLA)

Comments:

Charlie:

Thought he might stay in school another year but he certainly has the skill to go pro now. Might have been Top 5 pick next year.

Eric:

Price will be huge (literally) in the middle of the Colt's defense. The Colts need O-line, but there is no value here for a C or G.

Eric

32

Saints

Everson Griffen - DE (USC)

Comments:

Charlie:

Griffen is athletic and versatile. Can play both with his hand in the dirt or standing up. Fits what the Saints like to do perfectly.

Eric:

The Saints offense will continue to put up huge numbers. Griffen's pass rush abilities help make sure the opponent will not.
