Early Free Agency Update

Sadly, after a painfully uneventful offseason, the Cleveland Browns have been relatively quiet in free agency thus far. At this time, the Browns are working to sign their draft picks and to sign both undrafted free agents and work out tentative deals with veteran free agents. The Browns will be announcing undrafted free agents in the near future, and we will keep you updated on any names that we believe you should be looking out for. It is important to remember that part of the new CBA expands that training camp roster to 90 players. Unfortunately this means that approximately 10 more guys will be cut than in past years.

The Browns are reportedly working on re-signing some of their own free agents (hopefully Eric Wright and Jayme Mitchell at a minimum). It appears that Abe Elam and Matt Roth are out the door. The Browns have tapped into the veteran free agent market, and have reportedly agreed to terms with FS Usama Young, a former Kent Stater who was a third round pick of the Saints in 2007. No word yet on whether Young ken or kent read or write. The picture to the right is of Young (28) before he tries to tackle Rhino Hillis. I mean at least he looks like he is in the right spot. So we have that going for us.

The Browns are rumored to be in the hunt for former Viking DE Ray Edwards. At this time, we do not know how serious Edward's interest in Cleveland is, but landing him would be a great signing. We anticipate that over the next 72 hours, the Browns will sign a few second tier FA to fill positions of need. Should the Browns fail to re-sign Eric Wright, a CB will become a top priority. There are also reports linking the Browns to former Squeeler OT Willie Colon. The Squeelers are apparently interested in bringing him back, so I am in favor of signing him, even if it is merely for spite.

Welcome back to football ladies and gentlement! As we recover from the 130 plus days of depression known as the NFL lockout, we will have more Browns information here at SBS.
